How did your brand start and what inspired you to begin its journey?
Growing up, it was always my parents who put the bedsheets in our beds but at one point parati na lang yung childhood sheets yung ginagamit; aside from these childhood sheets, parating colorful na sheets. Matibay naman sila and there’s nothing wrong with that. But hindi na sila bagay when we were growing up na, meron kayong shoe collection, nag-hahangout kayo sa room. I would always borrow these plain bed sheets from my sister. So ito mas nakakakalma, mas bagay siya, we would hang out more in our room and then when it was time na when we will be buying our own bed sheets, we went to the mall, yung green - green na green, yung brown - brown na brown, yung red - red na red. So that was my inspiration, we would make different shades of sheets. We would make the aesthetic better, kasi the bedroom is an extension of one’s personality.
What do you find most fulfilling about being an owner of a local business?
I love creating new stuff. It’s what keeps me up at night. Having my own business, I get to do all of the ideas in my head. I’d bring life to these ideas. I’d execute and if hindi pa sila okay, I’d make some more. I just try and try and get back to the drawing board if meron pang kulang. So that’s what I love with having my own business. I get to meet new people, same creative people. And then yung mga mananahi ko they really are my angels. We discuss on how to make things happen. Meron din silang good suggestions. Minsan may mga naituturo din ako na mga techniques on how to sew. So it really is a full circle on sourcing, executing, giving back to the people who help me.
Can you show us one of your signature pieces/products and if you could walk us through the process of creating this?
1. 3 in 1 Bed Linen Set
Here is our 100% microfiber bed linens. They are pet-friendly and baby-friendly, hypoallergenic, and durable against pet scratches. They are also fade and wrinkle-resistant, so the color stays wash after wash. At Slow Days, we make use of our fabric scraps to make reusable items and we also don’t like to use plastics. For lesser use of plastics, we made our stand-alone packaging. The strap came from retaso and then yung packaging mismo ay galing din sa retaso. Galing siya sa cutaways ng fitted sheets.
2. Retaso Queen Pillowcases
Our bestseller is our Retaso Pillowcase. It’s a color-block pillowcase. The story behind this is when my mom passed away, it was very hard for me to clean her closet. Mahirap talaga ipamigay yung mga damit niya eh.
One day, na-inspire ako ni Mommy na instead na itapon yung mga damit niya, pwede daw i-upcycle. So kinuha ko yung mga duster niya, mga nightgown. Total ng mga 23 na nightgowns naging 5 quilted bedsheets para sa aming magkakapatid. So we could still sleep with our mom’s memory. It was a memory blanket. So tulad ng memory blanket na ginawa ko for mommy, na-inspire din ako dito sa retaso namin. Instead na itapon mo yung mga ganitong bloke ng tela, pwede mo pa siyang magawa at ma-upcycle bilang maging retaso pillowcases.
